Centre for the Development of People (CEDEP) joins the rest of the world in commemorating The International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOT), a worldwide celebration of sexual and gender diversity, commemorated annually on every 17th May. The day is dedicated to raise awareness of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Intersex (LGBTI) rights while promoting interest in the LGBTI human rights. Theme for this year is “Breaking the Silence” that has been existing in all sectors of life when addressing issues that affect the LGBTI people worldwide. ReadMore

The Centre for Human Rights and Rehabilitation (CHRR) and the Centre for the Development of People (CEDEP) have noted with deep concern the resurgence of bloodsucking rumours and associated attacks in some districts in the country. PRESS STATEMENT

We, the members of the Human Rights Defenders Forum, wish to express concern over the worsening levels of governance as events build up to the 2019 polls. We have noted the increase attacks of media personal since May this year. Few weeks ago, the Malawi Police attacked two journalists; Musase Cheyo and Towera Kumwenda from Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) whilst on duty in Mzuzu City yet the Police have the duty to protect everyone. Today we are in receipt of reports of an assault on veteran journalist and social commentator, Idriss Ali Nassah at Shoprite shopping complex in Blantyre. Read more

Centre for the Development of People (CEDEP) was established as a human rights organization whose core functions are to address the needs and challenges of minority groups - especially Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) persons through civic education, training, capacity building, networking, and research; and providing support services for the improvement of the welfare of minority groups in Malawi.

CEDEP joins the rest of the world in commemorating The International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOT), a worldwide celebration of sexual and gender diversity, commemorated annually on 17th May. This year’s theme is focusing on “Justice and protection for all” regardless of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity or Expression (SOGIE).
